ECB participates in United Nations International Day for the Elimination of Violence against Women

24 November 2016
  • ECB to participate in the United Nations International Day for the Elimination of Violence against Women (Orange the World initiative)
  • Areas of the Grossmarkthalle at the ECB’s main building will be illuminated between 17:00 and 22:00 on Friday
  • Illuminating the building in orange symbolises a brighter future without gender-based violence

The European Central Bank (ECB) is joining forces with other European and international organisations in support of the United Nations International Day for the Elimination of Violence against Women to raise public awareness about and mobilise people against gender-based violence. At the ECB’s main building, the entrance, western wing and northern façade of the Grossmarkthalle will be illuminated between 17:00 and 22:00 on Friday, 25 November. Lighting up the building in orange sends a strong message of support for a brighter future without violence and discrimination against women.

“The ECB is proud to participate in the ‘Orange the World’ global initiative, which aims to further enhance the UN’s Secretary-General’s campaign, ‘Unite to end violence against women’. Violence against women is a blatant violation of human rights and its prevention requires everyone’s awareness and participation”, said Christine Graeff, Director General Communications.
